Colorado Senate Bill 19-181 led to the creation of the Oil and Gas Compensatory Mitigation Grant Program for Conservation Easement Transaction Costs. The Oil and Gas Compensatory Mitigation Grant helps cover the costs associated with implementing perpetual private land conservation easements held by a third-party land trust. Managed by Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW), the grant is now active and interested organizations may begin to submit applications.
One of CPW’s top priorities for offsetting adverse impacts of oil and gas development is the permanent protection of existing functional wildlife habitats.
For calendar year 2025, CPW is making available the following approximate amounts specific to CPW’s Regions:
Northwest Region: $200,000
Northeast Region: $200,000
Southwest Region: $200,000
Taylor Elm, NW Region Energy Liaison and Andrew Newman, NE Region Energy Liason for CPW will provide an overview of the grant, share which projects are eligible, and explain how to apply. There will be ample time for Q&A and part of the discussion will touch on how this new grant program complements existing sources of funding for conservation easement transactions.
